How many people visit the Isle of Man?

Visit Isle of Man’s 2025 visitor report gives a headline total of 352,301 visitors. It separates 325,944 visitors in its passenger-survey figures from 26,357 cruise visitors. Keeping those categories visible makes the total easier to interpret.

The passenger survey uses interviews and passenger data to estimate visitor activity. The report records 10,967 passenger groups interviewed in 2025, including residents and visitors. Survey-derived estimates should retain their methodology and reference year when quoted.

The shape of the year

When do visitors come?

April–June had the largest quarterly visitor estimate in the 2025 passenger survey, followed by July–September. These are three-month totals; they cannot tell you the busiest individual week, the occupancy of a particular hotel or how crowded a walking route will feel.

The four published quarterly figures sum to 325,945, one above the published annual estimate of 325,944 because of rounding. Both are preserved as reported.

More than a holiday total

Why people visit, and how long they stay.

The 2025 passenger survey reports an average stay of 5.38 nights. That average belongs to the survey’s visitor population; it is not a recommended itinerary length and should not be applied to cruise day visitors.

Holiday40.3%
Friends or relatives37.5%
Business22.2%

Business trips and visits to friends or relatives make up a substantial part of visitor activity. The headline total should therefore not be described as the number of holidaymakers booking hotels. Plan the length of your own trip around usable sightseeing days, transport and interests: a weekend and a week on the island need different priorities.

A separate arrival pattern

Cruise visits in 2025.

The report records 26,357 cruise visitors across 47 cruise calls. A ship call is not a passenger count, and scheduled calls are different from completed visits. The annual survey page also reports cancellations for reasons including weather and technical issues.

For a cruise passenger, the useful planning detail is the time actually available ashore, including tendering, transfers and the ship’s all-aboard deadline. Use our cruise-day itinerary for those decisions. Annual visitor statistics do not establish how much time your sailing will have.

Useful questions.

Are ferry and airport passengers all tourists?

No. Passenger figures include residents and movements in different directions. The passenger survey separates residents from visitors; use the defined visitor series for tourism comparisons.

Can I compare every year directly?

Check methodology and coverage first. No annual passenger survey data was collected in 2020–2022, and the resumed 2023 survey covers April–December. Do not compare that partial year with a full year without explaining the difference.

Do these totals include TT visitors?

The annual visitor figures cover the year, so visitors during the TT period fall within that period’s activity. The TT visitor survey is a separate analysis; adding it to the annual total would count overlapping activity again.
